Slack
Role: Senior Product Designer, UX, UI
Team: Lifecycle, Monetization
While some of the UI styling on the slack.com homepage has changed since I left the Lifecycle and Monetization team, the overall UX bones of the page remain the same as when I oversaw the design of it from 2017-2020.
Here’s a review of my work from the lead engineer I worked most closely with:
“The short story is that Kat is absolutely the best User Experience Designer I’ve worked with in my 22 years in tech.
The longer version is that Kat brings insightful technical acumen, depth of experience, a deep empathy for the user as a human beyond the “customer journey”, and wonderful team leadership skills all in one dynamic, kind, and warm person.
Kat asks all the right questions, teases out the pain points, gets feedback through wireframes and rapid prototypes, and delivers beautiful designs that underscore function & ease of use above all else. As an engineer, it is a joy to partner with her on a project because the work truly feels like a collaboration at its best. I can easily rattle off project after project where her ability to focus the team on the most critical parts of the user experience has been the key to success.
I would absolutely love to work with her again in any capacity. Her natural leadership is a benefit to any team. She is one of my favorite teammates ever, and it’s because I’ve learned through being in the trenches with her that I can absolutely rely on her to lead us in the right path. And it’s also because I see her kind heart in everything she does, in how she shows up for people.”
